I've gotten back into Minecraft lately and I think it has to do with all of the permissions Nicole and I give ourselves to enjoy the game. We turn off fall damage, turn on keeping our inventories on death, pop in and out of Creative Mode. It makes for a satisfying, almost sugary sweet experience.

Something has been growing in the back of my mind, however. As I noclip through the world and cast late-game magics on myself, I think I have summoned my ideal Minecraft experience. I have been contacted by an entity I affectionately call…

The Debt

The Debt is the delightful consequence of my hedonistic adventures in Minecraft and I want to encourage you to come and swear fealty to its maw. The Debt permits you to give yourself anything you desire, but you must pay it back. I personally find it incredibly rewarding to throw cheat-gotten goods into the lava-filled monument I have constructed to The Debt . The mythology also gives me something to blame/fear when the unfortunate occurs. But I also like to think The Debt would reassure me there's no cost.

The Debt is patient. The Debt understands that six blaze rods now is a fair and fulfilling request. The Debt knows the potions you brew will allow you to return six blaze rods later. It is no trouble for The Debt for give you a book of Mending and a diamond pickaxe. It may be a long road for you to pay those items back, however.

I really appreciate the leaps The Debt permits me to take, and the short-term goals those steps create by necessity. The list of items I owe The Debt is short, but expensive. It is my new favorite way to play.
